KYKLOS was established in May of 1983
by a group of university and high school students of Greek descent, in
order to preserve and promote the Greek folk dance tradition for the
Greek community of Edmonton.
- KYKLOS was officially
incorporated as a non-profit organization on March of 1984.
We operate autonomously with our own board of directors.
- Over the past 25
years, KYKLOS
has performed extensively throughout the province of Alberta including,
Drayton Valley, Jasper, Banff, Calgary, and the Edmonton area.
- The group has
also performed in Kimberley BC, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Florida,
Seattle, California, Prague, and organized performing/study tours to
Greece in 1987, 1989, and 2005 (Cyprus & Greece).
- In February
1997, 1998, 1999, and 2003,
KYKLOS competed in the Greek
Folk Dance Festival and Competition held each year in
California. Over two thousand performers participated in the
competition from throughout the United States and parts of Canada.
KYKLOS
was awarded:

Best costume
award in 1997. - Fourth place in dance
presentation in the Senior’s Division in 1997.
- The Founders Award in 1998.
- Third place in dance presentation in the
Senior’s Division in 1999.
- In the summer of 2005, the group organized and attended a
Performing and Study Tour of Prague, Cyprus, and Greece. The group
performed in Prague, attended a workshop in Cyprus, and attended a
Study Tour in Greece.
- KYKLOS has organized
many conferences and attended many workshops on the performing arts in
the past 25 years. Dance instructors from all over the world,
including: Canada, Greece, and the U.S, have been present at these
workshops. Some of these instructors included: Joe Graziosi, Kety
Frangadakis, Paul Ginis, John Lulias, Bobby Moutselos and Dimitrios
Tsotzis.
